Sajid Tarar (IR Expert): 25th anniversary of 9/11 terrorist attacks is very important because majority of today’s youth was not born at that time and not seen the misery. After passage of 25 years of 9/11 attacks, Washington Post has issued an alarming report that Al-Qaeda is regrouping in Afghanistan. This report is very alarming for the US. The US believes that Pakistan has played lead role in global war on terror and rendered matchless sacrifices over 70000 lives along with infrastructural loss worth billions of dollars. It also alarming that BLA, TTP and other terrorists groups are using weapons and arms leftover by the US in Afghanistan. This very sophisticated arms and weapons are being used against Pakistan army and other law enforcement agencies. Now it is moral obligation of the US to hail Pakistan’s role and sacrifices in the global war on terror. I think that US President Donald Trump has reiterated on a number of times that US fully supports Pakistan’s war on terror. Washington Post today reports that Al-Qaeda is regrouping in Afghanistan which is grave threat to Pakistan, China, US, Central Asian Republics and rest of the world. I think that grave mistakes were committed by the US during the war on terror which proved to be counterproductive. However, now the situation has changed globally and even in Mideast as face of future warfare is totally changed. US attacks on Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq and other countries were mistakes.
Amb. A M Shahid (Former Diplomat):Pakistan bore irreparable loss in the global war on terror as it lost over 70000 lives along with huge infrastructural loss. After 9/11 Pakistan sided with the US against the terrorist groups and facing the dire consequences of joining war on terror even today. The US left Afghanistan in haste and now Pakistan is facing Taliban terrorism both Pakistani and Afghan. Pakistan condemns all manifestations of terrorism. Therefore other countries must also support Pakistan against the terrorists groups. Terrorists are getting stronger in Afghanistan with Indian support therefore it will be grave threat for Pakistan and rest of the world. The world must join hands to have an elected and people represented government in Afghanistan. The world must also press Afghan Taliban regime to come up to commitments made in Doha Accord and don’t allow terrorists groups to use Afghan soil against Pakistan and other neighbouring countries.
