August 15, 2024

Kashmiris across the Line of Control and worldwide observed India's Independence Day as Black Day, today, sending a strong message to the international community that New Delhi has no right to celebrate its day in the UN-acknowledged disputed territory of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, despite heavy deployment of Indian forces', black flags were hoisted and the Kashmir Valley wore a deserted look on India's Independence Day, today.

Kashmiri leaders and organizations, including the All Parties Hurriyat Conference vehemently condemned India's hypocrisy in celebrating its Independence Day while denying the same right to Kashmiris.

The APHC-AJK chapter staged a protest demonstration in front of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, while protest rallies were also held in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and major capitals worldwide.

In Muzaffarabad, a protest rally was taken out by Pasban-e-Hurriayat in front of the central press club.

The participants of the rally waived black flags.

The speakers including chairman of the Pasban e Hurriayat Uzair Ahmad Ghazali vowed to continue extending moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris in their just right for right to self-determination.

Meanwhile, Indian civil society members and organizations, under the banner of the Campaign Against State Repression, have demanded the release of four Kashmiri lawyers arrested under the Public Safety Act for advocating a UN-supervised plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.

They criticized the Modi government's actions as an attempt to silence dissenting voices and stifle peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
