Senate session underway in Islamabad

The Senate started its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad today with Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani in the chair.

At the outset, the House offered fateha for the departed soul of former Deputy Chairman Senate Mir Humayun Khan Marri as well as those martyred in recent acts of terrorism.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb laid before the House the National Forensics Agency Bill, 2024.

The chair referred the Bill to the Standing Committee concerned.

The Senate today passed the Deposit Protection Corporation Amendment Bill, 2024. It was moved by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

In his remarks, the Finance Minister said the Bill is aimed at further strengthening the financial system.

The Establishment of Special Court (Overseas Pakistanis Property) Bill was also passed by the House. It was moved by Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain.

Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhary Salik Hussain said the legislation is aimed at addressing the property related issues of overseas Pakistanis.
