Amb. Waheed Ahmad (Former Diplomat): China is not opening border with Afghanistan via Wakhan Corridor because it is contrary to concept of China’s One Belt, One Road Initiative (BRI). Therefore, China neither attended the inauguration ceremony of Wakhan Road nor formally recognised the project through diplomatic channels. Moreover, security of the area and region via Wakhan Corridor does not match with the China’s concept of security. Therefore, China has refused to open corridor with Afghanistan through Wakhan Corridor. Furthermore, Wakhan strip is very difficult terrain with unpaved road. Afghanistan wants to have connectivity with Tajkistan and China through Wakhan Strip but Afghan Taliban regime needs to behave like responsible country.
