Search operation is underway to find the site of a missing helicopter that was carrying the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation near the city of Varzaqan in East Azarbaijan province of the country.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, rescue teams, including armed forces, are combing the rocky area and the hilly terrain and have narrowed down the radius of their search to two kilometers.

President Raisi was returning from a ceremony after inaugurating a dam on Iran's border with the Azerbaijan Republic.

The president of the Iranian Red Crescent Society has confirmed that rescue and search teams have identified President Ebrahim Raisi’s crashed chopper.

According to Iran's official media reports, further details have not been shared yet.
