Analysts hail Pakistan’s support to Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace process
June 20, 2021

Dr. Huma Baqai (IR Expert): There would be a trust deficit and security vacuum in Afghanistan after withdrawal of international troops. Turkey is a good option for Kabul airport security and it should be acceptable to Taliban as well. Pakistan has been facilitating Afghanistan in achieving peace. Islamabad has urged for a pro-people government in Afghanistan and it is important to take all stakeholders on board for this purpose. It is very hard to predict the future of Afghanistan at this stage but the worst case scenario is the collapse of peace process. Instability in Afghanistan would force Afghan people to migrate to the neighbouring countries. Taliban have emerged as legitimate stakeholder in Afghanistan.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): Pakistan has always contributed a lot for regional peace and stability. Pakistan despite its limited resources has been hosting millions of Afghan refugees for the last many decades. It is high time for the international community to support Pakistan for a respectable return of Afghan refugees. Pakistan's problems have increased due to large number of refugees residing in the country. Resolution of Afghan crisis is imperative for safe repatriation of Afghan refugees. The international community must play a proactive role for durable peace in Afghanistan. Pakistan has played a significant role for the success of Afghan reconciliation process. Global responsibility should be there to support Pakistan in dealing with the refugee issue.

Rahimullah Yusufzai (IR Expert): The United States must play a responsible role in the success of intra-Afghan dialogue. The Kabul government and Taliban must show some flexibility for the sake of Afghan peace. The Afghan army is not capable enough to confront Taliban after the withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan. Taliban have already maintained their control on many parts of Afghanistan. There must be a ceasefire for successful negotiations. The Kabul government is losing its grip on Afghanistan. The Afghan security advisor has used a very indecent language against Pakistan. Hamdullah Mohib is an immature and unprofessional National Security Advisor. Pakistan's cooperation is imperative for Afghan peace.

Dr. Sarfraz Khan (IR Expert): The Kabul government and Taliban must sit together to resolve the Afghan issue. There should not be any external military involvement in Afghanistan. Pakistan wants a political and peaceful solution of Afghan crisis. Islamabad would welcome any political solution of Afghan dispute. The Afghan Army must maintain security at Afghan airports. Pakistan does not have any favourites in Afghanistan and Islamabad supports the elected Afghan government. An Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process is the ultimate solution to Afghan imbroglio. The modern and liberal Afghani people do not want Taliban in power. The United States must ensure political stability in Afghanistan before complete withdrawal of troops. Insecurity and political instability in Afghanistan adversely affects Pakistan. Negotiation is the only viable solution to Afghan dispute.
