Analysts hope OIC Foreign Ministers’ moot will discuss challenging issues for Muslim world
March 21, 2022

Ali Muhammad Khan (Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs): It is a very important conference and it is happening after a long time. It happens at a time when Pakistan won a diplomatic victory at the UN when the world organization adopted Pakistan’s resolution to declare a day to combat Islamophobia. Prime Minister Imran Khan is making sincere efforts to bring Ummah at one page. Pakistan has always raised the voice for oppressed Muslims whether they are in Palestine or Kashmir. OIC is a very important forum to discuss the issues and challenges being faced by Muslim countries. In a special session of OIC on Afghanistan in December last, Pakistan pleaded the case of Afghan brothers very persuasively and the whole world appreciated the sincere efforts of Islamabad.

Abdullah Gul (IR Expert): It is a great achievement for Pakistan to make this dream possible. Overall, there are also a number of non-members that are participating in the OIC moot. It is focus of the world right now and increases Pakistan’s role in world affairs. The role of Pakistan in Afghanistan has been appreciated around the world. Undoubtedly, it brings great respect and prestige to Pakistan in the comity of nations. We are all equally feeling the warmth of this conference. This event is taking place at a time when the whole world is seeing a paradigm shift in the background of Ukraine-Russia conflict and world is again becoming multipolar instead of unipolar. This moot is happening at a time when the nation of Pakistan is celebrating 23rd March jubilations. Being only Muslim nuclear power, Pakistan has a pivotal role in the Islamic world.

Najam us Saqib (Former Diplomat): It is a credit for Pakistan that it is successfully hosting another session of OIC in a short span of four months. The conference is being held at a time when the world is witnessing a conflict in Europe in the form of war between Russia and Ukraine. More than one hundred agreements will be signed during the mega event in various areas. The conference will discuss the issues of Yemen, Bosnia, and Afghanistan among others. It is a great opportunity for various Muslim countries to sit together and discuss issues of cooperation.

Dr. A. Z. Hilali (IR Expert): The most important topic on agenda of OIC meeting is Islamophobia. Pakistan has worked in this area very effectively and the UN recently approved a resolution of Pakistan to declare 15th March as day to combat Islamophobia. It is a significant achievement of Pakistan at the international front. The issue of Kashmir especially the human rights violations by Indian security forces will be discussed during the meeting. The Hindutva mindset in India is gaining strength and all minorities are facing harassment and persecution at the hands of Indian authorities. A unified stance in support of Kashmiris will help putting pressure on India to grant Kashmiris their due right to self-determination.
