Dr. Talat Anwar (Economist): The green initiative launched by the incumbent government will go a long way in developing the agriculture sector of the country and increasing its share in the national economy. Our agricultural production has been slow during the last few years compared to other countries. A major factor to this decline may be the climate change. The government took a good initiative to focus attention on agriculture sector and also developed a Land Management Information System to help farmers and increase production. It is need of the hour that extension services of agriculture are increasing to provide farmers the information on latest agricultural research and techniques. Other countries have increased their production by using agriculture information management systems.
Rana Ihsaan Afzal (Coordinator to Prime Minister on Commerce and Industries): The government is taking various steps to take the economy forward, including agriculture that is considered backbone of our economy. The launch of green initiative will build the agriculture sector on modern lines which has the potential to earn billions of dollars. It has been observed that some people buy plots of lands which are not used productively. Now, the government has decided to not allow such use of land. The land should either be used for industrial activity or agriculture as these are productive sectors. The government will discourage holding of land as property. Smart Special Economic Zones will be set up in the country to run the industries on modern lines, by using smart and green technologies.
