Dr. Rashid Wali (Defence Analyst):Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s visit to Iran is crucial at this critical juncture of prevailing tensions between US and Iran. Currently, leadership of both the US and Iran seems to be very protagonist. Therefore, CDF’s visit is yet another effort to bring both the warring parties from the brink of another conflict towards peace. Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit is also an attempt to bring both the countries to some sort of Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding like accord for lasting peace in the region.  It is significant that both the warring parties US and Iran equally trust Pakistan; therefore, peace efforts are ongoing. I hope that these peace efforts will bring yields and bring the region back from a potential conflict back to peace. At present closure of Strait of Hormuz shipping route is hurting regional and global economies. And any spillover of conflict may affect the whole region badly. So, I think that peace efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will bring fruits because both parties US and Iran pay heed to Pakistan’s advice. I think that both countries US and Iran are now war-weary and realize that war is not in their interest. So I think that saner elements want some sort of breakthrough in peace talks; however, spoilers are also active and want whole region at the conflict.
