High time for international community to help badly flood hit Pakistan
September 25, 2022

Waheed Ahmed (Former Ambassador) The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has effectively presented the case of Climate Change effects on Pakistan at the UN General Assembly session. The UN General Secretary and US President also supported Pakistan's narrative as far as greenhouse effects and rapidly changing weather due to climate change is concerned. We are hopeful that the international community will provide financial assistance to support the government in its efforts to bring Pakistan out of the difficult situation. The international organization like IMF may also provide support to Pakistan in terms of rescheduling the loan payments and installments.

Dr Noor Fatima ( IR Expert) The international aid for the victims of floods in Pakistan is gradually coming and will take time. However, the most important aspect is to make the world realize the catastrophe in Pakistan is much higher than 2010 floods and Pakistan would need much more assistance for the compensation. It is a good development that UAE has donated 2.5 million dollars to the Army Relief Fund for flood victims in Pakistan.  The media is also playing an important role in internationalizing the devastation caused by recent flooding in the country.

Dr AZ Hilali (IR Expert) The UN General Assembly session is going on and around 178 world leaders and dignitaries are present there. It is the right time that the world must acknowledge what is going on in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Amnesty international claimed that the world's largest democracy is committing the largest state terrorism. Unfortunately, the Indian atrocities on innocent Kashmiris are increasing day by day without any discrimination of age and sex. The Indian forces are committing worst genocide and torturing the Kashmiris youth just for nothing. An Indian official himself admitted that our priority is the territory and not the human. The international community needs to come forward and ensure the peaceful implementation of the UN resolution on Kashmir dispute and put moral and political pressure on India to give the Kashmiris their right to self-determination as committed in UN resolutions.

Dr Muhammad Khan (IR Expert) The annual session of UN General Assembly session is important as representation of world capital across the globe is present there. The protest of Kashmiris in front of the UN building to remind the United Nations that the Kashmir dispute is still the long-standing dispute on UN charter and still needs the attention of the world from almost 74 years. Kashmiris must be given the right to decide for their fate like all other nations. It is the responsibility of the United Nations and world leaders to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions. The Indian government has unilaterally and illegally abrogated the articles 35-A and 370 that are against the international norms. The international community has to force India to review its policies and stop committing human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
