Ammar Jaffry (Expert): The actors in human trafficking are spread in specific areas in Pakistan. Local police is quite aware of these actors in those areas. Parents are almost aware about the dangers for their children during illegal travel. It is dangerous trend that under-age children who don’t possess computerized national identity cards are making bids for human trafficking. Civil society should come forward to work on this issue to check human trafficking. Interpol should also be taken onboard to handle human trafficking. We are required to sign some treaties with Interpol and our foreign office should contact Interpol for enhanced collaboration. Human trafficking has become now an issue of human rights violation and people involved in such crime should be trialed under human rights violations. Interpol played key role in end of smuggling of jockey children from Pakistan to gulf region. People involved in human trafficking should not be granted bails at all. Culprits should be highly publicized on social media and media so that people may know about them.

A M Shahid (Former Ambassador): The government is putting iron hand on human traffickers. A large number of people involved have been brought to justice. Now Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is taking direct action against the culprits. The issue is that mafias lure our youth for illegal human trafficking. The government should take all the measures to check human trafficking. Young people should be properly checked at border while they are tending to cross over into other country. Pakistan can’t handle the issue of human trafficking unilaterally so other countries should be taken into loop on this issue. We must get information from countries about their available mechanism to check this issue. We should take actions to reduce problems faced by our youth so that they don’t bother to go abroad for jobs. The government should provide number of working and other forms of visas to our youth abroad through proper channels so that our people may go abroad through legitimate channel.
