In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have paid glowing tribute to prominent rights defender and noted lawyer Jaleel Andrabi on his 28th martyrdom anniversary today.
Andrabi was arrested by Indian army's Major Avtar Singh on March 8, 1996, and three weeks later, on March 27, 1996, his body was found floating in the Jhelum River near Padshahi Bagh in Srinagar.
In separate statements in Srinagar, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas and the Kashmir Bar Association paid homage to Andrabi.
They said that Andrabi was targeted for his documentation of human rights abuses by Indian troops and participation in the 1994 Annual UN Human Rights Council convention in Geneva.
They demanded that the international community to pressure India allowing a thorough investigation into Jaleel Andrabi's murder and holding the perpetrators accountable.
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, in a statement, solemnly honored the memory of several prominent Kashmiri martyrs, including Ashfaq Majeed Wani, Dr. Abdul Ahad Gooru, Jalil Andrabi Advocate, Shabbir Siddiqui, and Basharat Raza, alongside the martyrs of Hazratbal, on their martyrdom anniversaries.
