Pakistan’s National Security Policy envisions a prosperous Afghanistan for regional peace: Analysts
January 28, 2022

Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed (IR Expert): The human catastrophe unfolding in Afghanistan is a vivid example of the international community's imposture. Pakistan has been trying to convince the champions of democracy to provide basic amenities to the deprived people of Afghanistan. The shortage of food and medicines in Afghanistan implies that the world is still stuck in the medieval times. The international community certainly has been paying mere lip service in averting the looming humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan have every right to life, education, and food security just like the citizens of developed countries. The incumbent Taliban government is engaged in negotiations with the West and the western countries should also stop punishing the people of Afghanistan. The Comprehensive National Security Policy of Pakistan incurs the resolution of the Afghan issue which suggests that Pakistan wants to promote peace in the region unlike India. It is high time that the regional bully, India shuns the arms race and starts focusing on the people's security.

Dr. Huma Baqai (IR Expert): The foreign journals have quoted Afghanistan as a frozen hell which unveils the severity of the Afghan conundrum. The humanitarian crisis that was being termed as impending has already unfolded in the war torn country. The downtrodden segment of Afghan society is selling organs like kidney to meet the basic needs which is shameful for the champions of human rights. The economic situation of war-torn Afghanistan is quite fragile and needs urgent attention of the international community. Pakistan has been vocal about the imminent humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. The banking system in Afghanistan is not functional that is an underlying reason for economic turmoil in the country. The international community should ensure that humanitarian aid is being mobilized in an effective manner, so that the relief is trickled down to the common man.

Dr. Aliya Hashmi (Economist): The recently presented amendment bill will establish a fiscal discipline that was an imperative for the IMF program for Pakistan. The debt to GDP ratio is gradually increasing which is a huge burden on an economy like Pakistan. The previous governments have always considered the monetary loans from the state bank as the last resort in harsh times. It was the need of the hour to culminate such practices. The incumbent government is determined to maintain a low inflation rate but financial discipline is a prerequisite for lowering inflation. The PTI led government is increasing the tax base that will eventually increase the revenue. The establishment of financial discipline decreases the trust deficit between the state and international financial institutions. So, the amendment bill will ensure financial discipline in Pakistan's economy.

Dr. A. Z. Hilali (IR Expert): Pakistan is trying to convince the international community to expedite the process of humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan. Even the international community and foreign newspapers are considering Pakistan's proactive role in the Afghan issue as something fishy. The incumbent government of Pakistan has explicitly told the international community that Islamabad only wants peace in the region. The Times of India has acknowledged the diplomatic triumph of Pakistan in the Afghan issue and has suggested the Modi government not to play the role of a spoiler. The intellectual community of India suggests that Pakistan has expressed desire to normalize ties with India under new National Security Policy.  So, India should follow the suit if Pakistan steps forward for negotiations. The Modi's government needs to understand that the international image of India has tarnished due to their inhumane activities in IIOJ&K.
