As the world is observing the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances today, families of thousands of Kashmiris subjected to enforced disappearance in Indian custody continue to await justice in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a report released by its Research Section said at least eight thousand civilians have disappeared since 1989, while families continue to suffer trauma, uncertainty and economic hardships. It said human rights activists have also documented thousands of unmarked graves, with some believed to contain the bodies of disappeared Kashmiris.

The report called for accountability and tracing the whereabouts of the missing persons.

Meanwhile, widespread protests were held across the occupied territory against the massive electricity tariff hike by the Modi-led Indian regime in the occupied territory.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement in Srinagar, urged Kashmiri political leaders to rise above party interests and work collectively for protecting the identity and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He called for restoration of Articles 370 and 35A, release of political prisoners and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Meanwhile, MBBS interns across IIOJK threatened an indefinite strike over discriminatory treatment and inadequate remuneration.
