The UN Security Council has adopted a resolution on the protection of education in armed conflict zones in the world.

The resolution unanimously passed by the council, strongly condemned violations of international laws regarding the recruitment and use of children by parties to armed conflict as well as their killing, rape and other forms of sexual violence and abductions.    

It urged UN member States to develop domestic legal frameworks to prevent and address attacks and threats of attacks against schools and education facilities and use of children by armed groups.  

It emphasized the need for facilitating education during armed conflict.
