Qibla Ayaz (Religious Scholar): This is a very important development at the level of OIC that it took the issue of Islamophobia. Pakistan being an important member of the OIC has always raised voice in highlighting the issues faced by Muslim Ummah. Unfortunately, Islamophobic trend is rising in certain countries of West and it demands a collective response by the OIC. It is encouraging that OIC has taken this issue seriously. OIC should not only deal with the issue from political angle, but also from diplomatic angle. Muslims in many countries of the West are assuming important political positions and they should also exert pressure on their respective governments to ensure the sanctity of Holy Quran. OIC needs to be at the forefront of emphasizing the importance of sanctity of Holy Books, especially Quran that is dearest to Muslims. OIC delegation should be sent to all European capitals and apprise them of the sensitivity of the Muslims attached to this issue.
Dr. Hafiz Ikram ul Haq (Secretary Islamic Ideology Council): The desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden, Denmark and some other countries saw a strong response in the Islamic world. Kuwait announced to publish translations of Holy Quran in Swedish and Danish languages to extend the message of Quran to wider audiences. The response of OIC is also appreciable in order to devise a collective strategy to stop the recurrence of such incidents in future. The reaction in Muslim countries against such acts is understandable. But, only showing anger will not solve this problem. We need to adopt the path of dialogue to convince the world about the sanctity of Holy Quran. The Western audience has a misunderstanding about the freedom of expression. The freedom of expression does not mean freedom to hurt others.
