Experts hail decision of ECP that PTI received funding from prohibited sources
August 02, 2022

Akbar S. Babar (Former Member, PTI): I am very satisfied with the verdict of the Election Commission of Pakistan and thankful to Almighty Allah for giving me success. In the detailed verdict of the Chief Election Commissioner, it has been proven beyond doubt that PTI is involved in prohibited foreign funding. The PTI Chairman was submitting false and fake certificates to ECP and was hiding the party accounts. After the verdict, it has become a proven fact that PTI was involved in illegal foreign funding. A show cause has been issued to the party and after its response the ECP will decide the fate of PTI. I was among the founding members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf but quit it as the party was not working as per its political ideology. I had highlighted in my letter to Chairman PTI Imran Khan that there was rampant corruption in the party's funds but he never responded. Today, the time has proven that Imran Khan was guilty and now his fate will be decided by the ECP.

Moula Bux Chandio (Senator, PPP): After the verdict of Election Commission of Pakistan, the supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf must realize that Imran Khan is involved in corruption. The funds collected as charity were transferred to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf of Imran Khan. The people who donated for the charity cricket match did not know that their money was being used to fund a political party’s election campaign in Pakistan.

Amjad Shah (former Vice Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council): Election Commission of Pakistan has announced the much awaited verdict on PTI's prohibited funding case. It has been proven that the political party received illegal funds and ECP has issued a show cause to PTI.  Now we have to wait and see the response of the political party. If the answer is not satisfactory then PTI's chairman Imran Khan can be disqualified and if the charges against him are of serious nature then the political party could also be banned in future.

Tayyab Baloch (Former President, Press Association of Supreme Court): The Election Commission of Pakistan has unanimously given a verdict on PTI's foreign funding case. It was an eight years old case filed by PTI's own founding member Akbar S. Babar. The ECP is following the constitutional procedure as per Political Parties Act 2002 and under its Article 6 issued show cause to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.  PTI has been given yet another chance to prove its innocence. It is an interim verdict of the Election Commission of Pakistan but the proceedings of the case will continue as per constitution. The fact is that prohibited foreign funding has been proven against the political party. PTI not only submitted fake affidavits in ECP but also never presented the audit reports. The PTI can approach the superior courts against the verdict. It is responsibility of the federal government to implement Election Commission of Pakistan's verdict in PTI's prohibited funding case as per the law. According to the ECP's verdict, PTI received prohibited funds from 34 foreign nationals and 351 companies based outside the country.
