Dr A Z Hilali (IR Expert): Pakistan and Egypt have a number of common values and therefore Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given a friendly call to Egyptian President. Now both have discussed to play a proactive role in the ongoing situation in Middle East. Both have also discussed some joint measures to counter terrorism which is gripping Pakistan. Generally Pakistan-Egypt relations are very friendly and both support each other on numerous issues on international forums. At present bilateral trade volume is about $2.5 billion and Pakistan wants to increase this tune. Pakistan wants Egyptian investors to invest in Pakistan. Pakistan is also offering scholarships to Egyptian students and hopefully Egyptian students will be studying in Pakistan. Thus Pakistan and Egypt can further promote bilateral relations in future. It is a healthy sign that Pakistan has offered some 76 areas where Egyptian investors can invest. Egyptian businessmen have also held fruitful meetings with Pakistani chambers of commerce and industry as well as ministry of commerce. Pakistan is also trying to mobilize international opinion towards Israeli bombardment on innocent Palestinians. Hopefully there may be good omen for Palestinians because at present only European Union is taking lead in this regard.
