Mumtaz Zahra Baloch (Spokesperson, Foreign Ministry): The visit of Iranian Foreign Minister to Pakistan is an important development in the context of improving bilateral relations between both the countries. Today's meeting between the foreign ministers of both the countries is a step forward towards various economic and trade engagements. Both the countries have agreed to take concrete steps in this regard. Afghanistan is a common neighbor of Pakistan and Iran. All these countries are connected religiously, culturally and traditionally with each other. It is important for the regional progress and development to have peace and stability in Afghanistan. Pakistan and Iran are ready to work collectively to bring peace in the war-torn country and welfare of the Afghan people.
Javed Ahmed Khan (Environmentalist): Pakistan is categorized as middle-income class across the globe. Unfortunately, the developed countries are responsible for climate change and carbon emissions. But, they are not willing to compensate the sufferings of the developing countries that are paying the price of industrialization of the developed countries. However, Pakistan is very vocal on the issues of climate change.
Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhary (Former Foreign Secretary): China Pakistan Economic Corridor project is critically important for the economy of Pakistan as the project was initiated at the time when no one was ready to invest in Pakistan. Unfortunately, the Special Economic Zones under this project could not be established within time. As a result the industries could not get a boost which resulted in increase of unemployment. It was speculated that the work on CPEC has slowed down so it was the need of the hour to give this mega project a new direction. Recently, China’s Vice Premier visited Pakistan to celebrate the 10 years of CPEC and also discussed the next phase of BRI. CPEC will bring economic stability in the region and will change the destiny of the regional countries.
Dr. Muhammad Khan (Defense Analyst): Iran and Pakistan have historic relations and Iran supported Pakistan even in 1965 and 1971 wars. However, due to instability in Afghanistan, some misunderstandings created between Pakistan and Iran. However, once again, Pakistan-Iran relations are back on the right trajectory. Even the Iranian people want strong trade and economic relations between both the countries. There is a dire need of long-term planning to get the advantages of potentials between the two countries. The universities should be established where students of Pakistan and Iran can get education. The Iranian Foreign Minister is on an official visit to Pakistan where all aspects of bilateral relations and the emerging regional situation will be discussed.
