In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian forces have intensified cordon and search operations, raids, and surveillance under the pretext of security arrangements for the annual Amarnath Yatra.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian Army, paramilitary, and police personnel launched a massive cordon and search operation in Chanpora, Saidpora, Amshipora, and adjoining areas of Shopian district, creating an atmosphere of fear and causing widespread hardship for the local population.
All entry and exit points were sealed as forces conducted house-to-house searches. Troops barged into residential houses, harassed women, children and elderly people, and damaged and looted household belongings.
Meanwhile, personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force and police carried out a joint search and checking operation in Lal Chowk, Srinagar's commercial hub, and adjoining areas.
They conducted extensive checks of vehicles, motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, commuters and pedestrians, scrutinizing identity documents and subjecting people to frisking and questioning.
On the other hand, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama expressed deep concern over the BJP-led Indian government's decision to prevent Hurriyat leaders Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi and Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari from travelling to Iran to attend the funeral ceremony of Shaheed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a statement issued in Srinagar, the MMU said restrictions on religious scholars and leaders in performing their religious and social responsibilities hurt public sentiment, create unnecessary anxiety, and violate the spirit of religious freedom.
