Analysts hail Prime Minister’s determination for a separate province of South Punjab
March 06, 2022

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain (Information Minister): It was in the manifesto of PTI to create South Punjab province. Now, the Prime Minister is fulfilling his promise and the creation of South Punjab province will be a landmark as it will open various avenues of development. The formation of the province was a longstanding demand of the people of South Punjab. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf is the party of middle-class. When the PTI came into power, the economic conditions were very weak. Pakistan had the foreign reserves of three months only and the country was on the brink of bankruptcy. But at this point of time, the economy is on the right track. The incumbent government focused on improvement in agriculture, construction and industrial sectors. The PTI-led government is making improvements in other sectors as well and the focus of our policies will be on middle-class. If the opposition parties had numbers, they would have been in power by now. All the tactics of the political parties are aimed at pressurizing the government, so that it takes back corruption cases against them. Entire reliance of the opposition parties is on horse trading to buy the members. I think opposition will fail in their attempts and they would have no future.

Dr. Zafar Iqbal (Pakistan's Ambassador to Romania): Currently, more than 95% of Pakistanis have been evacuated from Ukraine but a small number of people are in the areas where there is intense fighting going on between Ukrainian and Russian forces. However, we have been trying to evacuate them as well and they may be evacuated to Russia. The stranded Pakistanis in Ukraine have been evacuated to Poland, Romania and Hungary. In Romania, we have received 423 Pakistanis. Over 130 students have already reached their destinations and 60 more will also move to their destinations once the flights are available. We have established camp offices near borders and the Pakistani citizens are now staying in hotels where all their expenses are being paid by the Pakistani government. It is good news that no Pakistani in Ukraine is injured. We are hopeful for the successful evacuation of all the Pakistani citizens stranded in Ukraine.
