January 07, 2024

Kanwar Dilshad (Former Secretary, Election Commission): The Information Minister as a focal person of the federal government has rightly stated that the general public should not give any attention to rumors as far as elections are concerned. Election Commission of Pakistan is determined to conduct elections within specified time. Although, senate resolution for delay in elections is passed and moreover the concerns of Maulana Fazal-ur-rehman are also on the record yet the elections seems to be conducted on 8th February as per timeline given by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Maintaining law and order situation in the country during the elections is the responsibility of caretaker governments in federal and provinces. Special arrangements will be made at the more sensitive polling stations. Holding of free and fair elections is the prime responsibility of the election commission of Pakistan.

Dr Noor Fatima (Economist): The electric buses provided by China would be a gift for Pakistan. It is a good development that China has handed over one hundred and sixty electric buses to Islamabad Pakistan is already badly affected by climate change. Although Pakistan's contribution in carbon emissions is less than 1% yet it is our responsibility to take concrete steps to minimize the impacts of climate change. The electric buses provided by China would be a gift for Pakistan. It is our responsibility to convert vehicles from fossil fuel based transport vehicles to environment-friendly electric vehicles as it will help in improving Pakistan’s worsening environment indicators through zero tailpipe emissions and lower noise pollution.

Dr Ahmed Saeed Minhas (IR Expert): Attacks on the merchant vessels and drone attacks are becoming a routine activity that is making the situation at Arabian Sea worse. The rebels have opposed Israel's military campaign in Gaza and have vowed to target any ships passing through the Red Sea that are bound for the Jewish state. Over 50% trade is carried out through the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. Pakistan Navy has deployed its warships in the Arabian Sea in order to safeguard its territorial waters. The Pakistan Navy is also involved in exercises in order to deal with different challenges in the sea. The main purpose of the patrol is to ensure the safety of Pakistani and international merchant ships. Iran and the US allies are also busy with exercises in Arabian Sea and any miscalculation and misperception may lead to the worse situation.
