Religious scholars stress for taking concrete measures to prevent recurrence of incidents of Islamophobia
July 08, 2023

Dr. Muhammad Tufail (Religious Scholar): The series of incidents of Islamophobia across the globe must be a matter of concern for the civilized world. After the end of cold war, Muslims became target of many in the Western world. Unfortunately, the Muslims and their holy book Quran are being targeted by anti-Islam elements in the West. Islam is a religion of peace and harmony. As Muslims, we strongly believe we have to respect all other religions and their sacred books. Not honoring the other religions and their holy books may lead to a war-like situation in the world. OIC and other world organizations must come forward in order to chalk out ways to counter the increasing trend of Islamophobia in the world, particularly in the West.

Dr. Dost Muhammad (Religious Scholar): Islamophobia started when John of Damascus wrote a magazine that was translated into different languages and reached Europe. In the 20th and 21st centuries when the world has turned into a global village it is unfortunate that people are not respecting other religions. After the recent blasphemous incident in Sweden, the Muslims across the globe lodged strong protests. The world needs to understand that disrespecting other religions can never be freedom of expression. It is need of the hour that 57 Islamic countries in the world sit together and chalk out a comprehensive plan to counter blasphemous incidents.
