October 13, 2024

Waheed Ahmad (Former Ambassador): It is a great foreign policy success of Pakistan to host this important SCO meeting and we welcome all the respected delegates in Islamabad. Such important international event is being held in Pakistan after a very long time which is a very healthy sign as far as country’ diplomatic success is concerned. Pakistan will get an opportunity to improve its relations with participating countries. As we know SCO is a brain child of China and that’s why China is very much interested in meetings and future of this organization. Chinese Premier is leading a high level delegation in this conference that will further cement bilateral relations between Pakistan and china. This forum will definitely find new avenues of cooperation amongst SCO countries. All regional countries including China, Russia and Iran will deliberate on possible ways to overcome the challenges and further enhance cooperation in multiple sectors.

Dr Munawar Hussain (IR Expert): Pakistan is set to host the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Government which is of course a great diplomatic achievement. This is a significant event, as it will bring together leaders from across the SCO member states to discuss important matters, with a particular focus on economic cooperation. Since joining the SCO as a full member in June 2017, after holding observer status since 2005, Pakistan has been actively participating in the organization’s activities. The SCO CHG meeting in Islamabad marks a pivotal moment in the country’s diplomatic journey and represents an opportunity to bolster its global standing. Pakistan’s role as the host underscores its commitment to the SCO’s goals, aiming to promote regional stability and prosperity. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) holds a unique position among global institutions, representing nearly one-third of the world’s population through its member states. This makes it a platform of immense strategic importance, allowing countries to engage in dialogues that shape regional policies.
