Analysts laud Pakistan, Saudi Arabia commitment to explore investment opportunities in different sectors of Pakistan
August 10, 2023

Waheed Ahmed (Former Ambassador):

Saudi Arabia’s government wants to upgrade and develop the country and sees itself as modern Saudi Arabia which can be an economic and regional hub. So, Saudi Arabia has shown keen interest in the investment potential of Pakistan’s mining, energy, agriculture, and information technology sectors. Saudi investment in Pakistan would naturally produce a merchandise surplus.

Rana Ihsan Afzal Khan (Special Assistant to Prime Minister):

Saudi Arabia has always been a strong supporter of good relations with Pakistan. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have good relations as we are closely in touch with each other in many sectors. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have also huge potential to unlock for enhanced cooperation in infrastructure development, including through public-private partnerships. Saudi Arabia has always supported Pakistan in every moment especially on difficult times.

Najam Ul Saqib (Former Ambassador):

There have been ups and down in the Pak US relations throughout history. But, in the recent past, some things created misconceptions between the two countries. For example, Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister was on an official visit in Russia, when Ukraine was under attack. The tone and language of Ex-Prime Minister and PTI Chief about the United States was also not good. These things were not well perceived by the United States. The relations between countries are always based on national interests and give and take. Pakistan has very important strategic location and we have to use this strategic value very cautiously. We should be more realistic, pragmatic and practical while devising our foreign policy. Next governments should devise foreign policy in the view of ground realities.

Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Abdul Qayyum (Defense Analyst):

United States of America and Pakistan have a long History of Relationship. It’s good news that the United States has expressed that it values its relationship with Pakistan including with respect to counter terrorism. The US has also expressed that it will continue to support Pakistan's counterterrorism operations. It's our new beginning with United States of America; we should have strategic dialogues with each other and should ask United States of America to help us to resolve our issues with India.
