Climate Resilient Pakistan Conference: Pakistan effectively internationalized the issue of climate change in front of international community: Analysis

Mirza Ikhtiyar Baig (Economist):  Pakistan is the least contributor to climate change whereas it is the worst victim of its effects. At the International conference, Pakistan also presented a policy of how the impacts of climate change in the country can be mitigated in future. The world appreciated the policies of Pakistan in this regard. Pakistan managed to gain the pledges of 9.7 billion dollars made by friendly countries and financial institutions at the Geneva Conference. It is a mixture of loans and grants. Pakistan has provided an estimate of about USD 16 billion for the rehabilitation of flood victims, half of which will be utilized by the government from its own resources. Almost 40 countries participated in the conference. The UN Secretary General played a vital role in highlighting the vulnerability of Pakistan to climate change. The Prime Minister also ensured complete transparency in utilization of funds, pledged at the Climate Resilient Pakistan Conference in Geneva.
