Pak-UAE bilateral relations moving on right direction: Analysts
January 11, 2023

Waheed Ahmed (Former Ambassador): The fact is that Pak-UAE relations are multidimensional including leadership to leadership, people to people and institutional level relations. Unfortunately, both the countries have not been able to apply full potential of trade between them. It is pertinent to mention here that the leadership of the UAE was also engaged with Pakistan prior to the Geneva conference. During the visit to United Arab Emirates, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will look for the enhancement of trade and economic relations between the two countries. The United Arab Emirates can also support Pakistan in mitigating the impacts of the import bill. It is a good opportunity for both countries to review their relations according to their potential. The defense cooperation between the two countries also needs to be enhanced. Pakistan can provide training and other technical support to the UAE. The construction boom in UAE will need expert manpower and Pakistan can provide support to UAE in this regard.

Dr. Amna Mehmood (IR Expert): Pakistan is passing through a difficult time as currently, we have been facing severe economic challenges. At the Geneva Conference, Pakistan managed to pledge a sufficient amount for the rehabilitation of floods victims in the country from the international donors. Now, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is going to visit the United Arab Emirates as the UAE always supported Pakistan in difficult times. The Emirate Bank and Dubai Bank have already rolled over the amount of 1.2 billion dollars. Pakistan's due debts are being returned on time and the country’s forex reserves will stabilize again very soon.
