Analysts emphasize importance of CPEC as harbinger of regional connectivity
July 12, 2022

Arif Kamal (Former Ambassador): Better relations and enhanced connectivity between countries of South and Central Asia is really important for prosperity of the people of the two regions. Pakistan enjoys a pivotal place to connect the two regions. The resolution tabled by Pakistan at the UN to connect the two regions will pave way to increase commerce, connectivity and exchange of people between different countries. CPEC is the vanguard in this connection that will link up North and South. We have to accelerate our participation in CPEC for its early completion. The delays and shortcomings need to be overcome as soon as possible. Gwadar has a really important role to connect South Asia with coasts of East Africa as well as the Middle East. India could also become a part of this connectivity but Islamabad’s relation with New Delhi rests on resolution of Kashmir issue. The current dispensation in India is not addressing the bilateral issues in a wiser manner.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): There are various projects which adjoin the South Asian countries, but there is no comparison of CPEC. It holds great place for both Pakistan and China. This project has provided employment opportunities to our people. China is investing in almost every industry and working steadfast to provide economic stability to Pakistan. The project is only being affected by terrorist activities, but the security agencies are working diligently to provide security to Chinese workers in Pakistan. On the other hand, Kashmir is the main bone of contention between Pakistan and India, and these projects can flourish effectively if this issue is resolved peacefully. Kashmir issue is the biggest hurdle in the way of attaining regional connectivity and peace. If the international community wants peace in South Asia, it will have to resolve this issue on immediate basis. The world should raise voice to ensure political and social rights of the Kashmiri people. Otherwise, regional peace and stability will remain elusive.

Dr. Rasheed Ahmed Khan (IR Expert): The Kashmir Martyrs’ Day is observed every year in the memory of those Kashmiris who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their people. The Kashmiris observe this day with zeal and fervor because their Kashmiri brethren lost their lives on the name of Allah Almighty. This day holds a special place for the Kashmiris, as it is observed worldwide by people of Kashmir. Kashmiris are supported by all political parties in India, except for the Modi-led fascist BJP. These struggles have strong historical roots of several sacrifices of Kashmiri brothers to ensure their right of self-determination. It's been more than seventy years that the Kashmiri people are facing atrocities. The Kashmir issue has now become an international issue, as world community is condemning the atrocities of the Indian government. No one can deny the right of self-determination of the Kashmiris.
