Waheed Ahmad (Former Ambassador): Pakistan and Turkiye have potential to increase bilateral trade to $5 billion as Turkey is member of European Customs Union and can play a role as gateway to European markets for Pakistani exports. Pakistanis can export their products to European and world markets through Turkey in future. Both sides will have good demand of IT experts in coming days and they can further collaborate in IT sector. Cultural exchanges between Pakistan and Turkey may also bring people of both countries further closer. Therefore I think that private sector can play its due role because government sponsored activities have decreased. Turkish tourism sector is well organized and developed one and Pakistani tourism sector can benefit from their expertise.
Dr Abid Gill (Economist): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made good efforts to bring international businesses to Pakistan. Now our bureaucracy needs to facilitate the foreign investors as we have made investment rules and regulations very tough. Now we need to place experts in every field on key decision making posts instead of bureaucracy. Only through this way Pakistan can benefit from trade and investment related agreements and MoUs with other countries. Pakistan needs to search out for new markets to enhance our exports. We also have to upgrade our skills and our government will have to conduct a study to find out our surplus and demand related markets. We will have to focus on our industry and we will have to make our entire system of trade competitive with other markets and countries. We will have to weigh our exports and imports in trading with Turkiye. Pakistan has potential to enhance its exports in Hilal products to Turkiye and other markets. Quality assurance is vital for gaining trust of global consumers. In this regard we need to follow a long term policy on business ethics.
