October 19, 2023

Mansoor Ahmad Khan (Former Ambassador): Pakistan and China are very important strategic partners. Both countries have been cooperating with each other for decades. About a decade ago, China Pakistan Economic Corridor project was started under Belt and Road Initiative of President Xi Jinping. Under it, industrial, agricultural and infrastructure projects are being completed in Pakistan. The visit of Prime Minister to China to participate in BRI forum will go a long way in further increasing cooperating between two brotherly countries. Pakistan and China continue to strengthen collaboration in diverse areas, including economy and defence. Pakistan can learn from China’s experience in increasing prosperity as China has lifted millions of its people from poverty. Pakistan can also gain valuable experience of China in industrialization, agriculture and mining. In the coming years, more Chinese investment will come into Pakistan in different sectors. Power generation is another area in which we can benefit from China’s expertise as Pakistan is facing energy crisis for long.

Dr. Talat Shabbir (CPEC Expert): The visit of Prime Minister to China is extremely important in global and regional contexts. China invited high level representatives from more than 40 different countries. This shows the economic power and influence of China. China Pakistan Economic Corridor is an extension of Belt and Road Initiative and Pakistan is gaining a lot from this profitable venture. The visit has given rejuvenation to CPEC and it clearly shows that work is on fast pace on this project. Pakistan has a lot of potential and foreign investors can gain lucrative deals available in the country. Prime Minister during his interaction with various leaders on the sidelines of BRI forum convinced them to come and invest in Pakistan. We also need to provide an enabling environment so that investors have confidence in Pakistan’s economy.

Dr. A. Z. Hilali (IR Expert): The visit of Prime Minister to China comes at a crucial time. The Chinese authorities gave a warm welcome and reception to the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Even Indian media has highlighted this fact which shows the special relationship that exists between Pakistan and China. The Prime Minister during his meetings with Chinese President and his counterpart explained the position of Pakistan on China Pakistan Economic Corridor. The CPEC came at a time when Pakistan needed it the most as no other country was willing to invest such huge amounts into the country. Under CPEC, Pakistan’s infrastructure, energy and communication facilities are improving that are contributing to solidify Pakistan’s economic foundations. A number of MoUs have been signed between Pakistan and China during the visit. We have to learn many things from China in various areas.
