International Mother Language Day was observed on Friday in Islamabad, like elsewhere in the country and the world.
In this connection, a walk was organized in the federal capital in support of the Punjabi language.
Participants of the walk were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans in support of mother languages.
They were demanding that the Punjabi language be made a medium of instruction in school curricula.
Additionally, a three-day festival regarding the importance of Sindhi and other local languages started at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts, Islamabad. Cultural and literary festivities are the hallmark of the event.
Furthermore, various programs were also held to highlight the importance of different local languages spoken in the country.
Like other parts of the country, International Mother Language Day was also observed in Lahore.
In this regard, a festival was organized at the Lahore Press Club, attended by notable individuals from various walks of life. Punjabi book stalls were also set up at the event.
Speaking with Radio Pakistan’s Correspondent, Qasim Bukhari, a participant, Ahmad Raza, emphasized the need to make Punjabi a compulsory subject in the school curriculum.
He highlighted that Punjabi is a rich language and that Punjabis take great pride in their language and culture.
Former spokesperson of Balochistan, Farah Azeem Shah, also attended the festival in connection with Mother Language Day, where she was gifted a traditional Punjabi turban.
