March 22, 2022

Dr Noor Fatima (IR Expert): Muslims around the world, and especially in the West, have been facing the impacts of Islamophobia. The declaration of a special day to combat Islamophobia by the UN is a big achievement. It was Pakistan’s initiative that resulted in UN’s adoption of this historic day. It will certainly help to raise awareness about the peaceful nature of Islam and sensitivities of Muslims. Prime Minister Imran Khan has time and again urged the world to take serious steps to curb Islamophobia. In OIC Foreign Ministers’ moot today, Prime Minister once again highlighted the efforts made by Pakistan to curb the tendencies of Islamophobia.

Ali Sarwar Naqvi (Former Ambassador):  This is a proud moment for Pakistan to host this important event. Pakistan is a very important member of Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Prime Minister in his address covered a lot of issues to provide food for thought to participants. He discussed Kashmir, Palestine and Afghanistan in depth. He raised the issue of Islamophobia and how to combat this menace in the West. The Prime Minister also discussed the issue of Ukraine conflict and urged for its resolution through dialogue and talks. The Muslim countries should adopt a unified stance on this issue.

Dr Rasheed Ahmad Khan (IR Expert): It is beyond doubt that uncertainty in Afghanistan is leading to sufferings of Afghan people. Overall, all OIC member countries agree that situation in Afghanistan is critical and international community should play its role in providing food and other essential items to that country. Stability in Afghanistan will lead to more trade and connectivity between countries of South and Central Asia. OIC being an important bloc can play a role in resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Muslim countries are in favor of dialogue to stop the war and hold talks.

Dr Huma Baqai (IR Expert): It is a great honor for Pakistan to hold the successful summit of OIC Council of Ministers after two decades and more importantly, Pakistan has been given the president ship of the organization. Moreover, the theme of the summit this year is also much important and broad based. The issues of Kashmir, Palestine and Afghanistan were also discussed at length. The highlight of the event was the presence of Chinese Foreign Minister and his very critical speech.
