Mirza Ikhtiyar Baig (Economist): The development of the Gawadar port will help improve regional connectivity. Pakistan will immensely benefit from the development of this port as it will provide an opportunity to the land-locked countries of Central Asia to connect to the broader world. Trade through the Gawadar port will benefit certain other countries as it will be the simplest and shortest route to Europe. The world capitals are acknowledging the importance of Gawadar port and expressing willingness to be a part of the Belt and Road Initiative. Unfortunately, the previous government in its tenure of 4 years did not give top priority to the public benefiting projects. Due to the policies of the PTI government, many friendly countries including China and Turkiye were upset. Now as the result of prudent policies of the incumbent government, the relations with other countries are steadily improving. China has set new roadmaps and goals and both China and Pakistan are determined to complete the development projects within specified time.
