Gwadar Sea Port to help promote regional trade: Analysts
March 31, 2021

Professor Dr. Mirza Ikhtiyar Baig (Economist): The Gwadar Port is the deepest sea port in the world, situated on the Arabian Sea at Gwadar in Balochistan. The port features prominently in the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) plan, and is considered to be a link between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Maritime Silk Road projects. Gwadar is driving the rebirth in the modern era of technological development and it is far sure that it is carrying a potential to build a harmonious world with lasting peace, regional security and common prosperity. The credit can be given to Gwadar Port for encouraging the regional countries to coordinate economic policies and carry out broader and more in-depth regional cooperation with the high standards that benefits all.

Khalid Khattak: (Former Ambassador): The development of Gwadar Port is flagship project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which has been praised by nations across in the Arabian Sea for its smooth and well-planned operationalization. The deep-sea port at Gwadar is visualized as becoming a regional hub, serving commercial traffic to and from Central Asian states and Afghanistan. The development of the Gwadar port holds out for the regional countries immense economic returns. The Gwadar port and the highways connecting it to Afghanistan reduce the distances of Pakistan-Central Asia traffic by about 500 km. The construction of the Gwadar port is an important component of Pakistan’s overall initiative to facilitate trade with the landlocked states of Central Asia. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s meetings with Tajik leadership will help enhance cooperation in various fields.

Dr.Atta-ur-Rehman (Health Expert):  We should appreciate the efforts made by the current government to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. Even international community has acknowledged Pakistan’s sincere efforts in the fight against Covid-19. As far as Covid-19 SoPs are concerned, I would request the citizens to wear masks. We should adopt a balance policy to prevent the pandemic and to protect livelihood simultaneously. The pprovincial governments should also cooperate with the Federal Government in implementation of SOPs besides spreading awareness through effective coordination.
