Dr. Huma Baqai (IR Expert): Prime Minister Imran Khan in particular and his cabinet in general are making sincere efforts to assist the vulnerable segments of society. Despite the difficult situation at the global level due to rising inflation, the incumbent government is still making efforts to continue the economic activities in the country in order to achieve economic sustainability. Health Card is one of the major initiatives of PTI-led government and it is committed to expand the facility throughout the country. Now the quality health services will be affordable to everyone. The prime objective of the current government is to uplift the common man and alleviate poverty in the country while assuring that the government would do its best to provide maximum facilities to people.
Makhdoom Sami-ul-Hassan Gillani (Member Punjab Assembly, PTI): Every government after coming into power had made tall claims regarding the development of Southern Punjab. But, no practical measures were taken to provide basic rights to residents of the area. The people of these areas are now happy as the present government is making all out efforts to eliminate their sense of deprivation. I hope that development projects underway in Southern Punjab will change the destiny of the people of the area. The road infrastructure has been improving. If I talk about my constituency, a rural hospital has been upgraded with over 50 million rupees. Moreover, certain roads have also been constructed. The government has allocated 35% of the budget quota for the region. Southern Punjab has the capacity to contribute positively to Pakistan but it needs some provisional help from the government.
Hamayun Iqbal Shami (Chairman, Pakistan Economic Forum): It is the first ever National Security Policy in the history of the country that has focused on socio-economic development. A few days ago, the Interior Minister stated that the corporate sector in the country had generated the highest ever profit this year. Although inflation has increased, the economic policies of the present government are heading in the right direction. It is need of the day to devise a comprehensive socio-economic policy as providing social and financial protection is responsibility of the state. It will also raise the living standards of the poor. Unfortunately, no government in the past focused on economic concerns due to which poverty has increased. But now it must be adjusted and I am hopeful that the National Security Policy will ensure socio-economic protection.
Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Asif Yasin Malik (Defense Analyst): A state cannot exist without people. Internationally, the National Security Policy paper is issued by every government in power. Pakistan has launched its first-ever comprehensive National Security Policy. It is a fact that a country without a stable economy cannot be considered secure. This document prioritizes equitable economic development to overcome socio-economic inequality through existing programs for the poor such as Ehsaas, and Panah Gahs. These programs aim to remove disparities in economic development between various regions of the country. This is the first time that any policy in Pakistan has taken a comprehensive approach to security.
