Analysts laud govt’s crackdown against illegal immigrants
October 05, 2023

Ali Sarwar Naqvi (Former Ambassador):

Pakistan always wanted good relations with all the countries as it is a fundamental part of our foreign policy. Our founding father Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah also advised us to keep good relations with all countries. It is unfortunate that Indian response in this regard always remained non-cooperative despite certain efforts made by Pakistan for a composite dialogue in order to resolve all outstanding issues. However, Pakistan is gradually strengthening its relations with other countries. The caretaker government has taken a wise decision to start a crackdown against the illegal immigrants. These illegal immigrants have been involved in certain suspicious activities and remain a threat to the law and order situation in the country.

Dr. Munawar Hussain (IR Expert):

It was a late but a welcoming decision that the government has given a deadline to the illegal foreigners to leave the country. It was the requirement of our society, economy, security and image of Pakistan. Pakistani society was very vibrant and it was accepted across the world. The invasion of the Soviet Union and migration of a huge number of Afghan refugees to Pakistan totally changed the image of our country. Since then Pakistan has been facing economic issues, drug trafficking, sectarian problems and security issues. Pakistan is not in position to bear the burden of the illegal migrants due to the economic situation. Pakistani image and its economy may improve once it gets rid of the illegal immigrants.
