Dr. A.Z. Hilali (IR Expert):
Pakistan has always supported peace and stability in Afghanistan as the peace in the war-torn country is vital for regional peace and stability. Pakistan has time and again requested the international community to get engaged with the interim Afghan government. Some insurgent groups in Afghanistan are still using Afghan soil for their nefarious designs against Pakistan. These elements are trying to create misunderstandings between both the neighboring countries and are becoming the threat for regional peace as well. The interim Afghan government is responsible for controlling the activities of militant groups. It is the time that Pakistan must give a strong response to the terrorists operating from Afghanistan. The Afghan government must also have to break the nexus of Indian spy agency RAW and the militant groups in Afghanistan as India is providing financial assistance to the terrorist groups.
Hamayun Iqbal Shami (Chairman, Pakistan Economic Forum):
It is a vital issue as transit trade with Afghanistan consists of over 90% smuggling. There is no banking system in Afghanistan. A number of goods imported and moved to Afghanistan through Afghan Transit Trade are being smuggled back to Pakistan. The stuff is not actually being consumed in Afghanistan; instead it is smuggled into Pakistan. The Afghan smugglers evade huge amounts of duty or taxes; while the local markets are also adversely affected because of the undocumented supply of a lot of goods and products.
Abdullah Gul (Defense Analyst):
It is unfortunate that the interim Afghan government is not complying with the terms and conditions of the Afghan Transit Trade agreement. Moreover, as per Doha agreement, the interim government in Afghanistan would not allow the use of its soil for terrorist activities in the neighboring countries and will take action against the militants having safe haven in the country. The Afghan government is also not complying with this agreement rather accusing Pakistan of being involved in the terror attack. The world is observing that most wanted militants are targeted in the war-torn country. The relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan may deteriorate because of consistent attacks inside Pakistan. It is the need of the hour that the Afghan government must review its policy towards Pakistan and our government needs to give a befitting response at the diplomatic front to the Afghan government. Interim Afghan government should take action against terror groups using its soil.
