Analysts voice support for Sikhs’ right to their separate homeland of Khalistan
November 14, 2021

Harmeet Singh (Senior Journalist): Sikh community in India is facing do or die situation as the fascist policies of Narendra Modi have forced them to fight for their fundamental rights. The secessionist movements are deepening in India and Sikh community has denounced their affiliations with Indian flag. The BJP and RSS have collectively engineered systematic oppression against Sikhs. The current Khalistan Referendum Movement is a response to Indian brutalities. Sikhs have deliberately pursued this movement in the month of November to pay homage to deceased fellows that were massacred by goons of RSS in Delhi. The map of Khalistan will make this area strategically important for China and Pakistan. Furthermore, Khalistan unlike India, will ensure peace and stability in the region.

Gopal Singh Chawla (President Punjabi Sikh Sangat): Khalistan is our fundamental right that was promised by India back in 1947. But Indian government has hypocritically defied their agreement with the Sikh community. The Sikh sacred scriptures also embark on creation of a separate homeland for them and Sikhs will go to every extent for its achievement. India has started ethnic cleansing of Sikhs but they cannot suppress the Khalistan movement. Punjabi Sikh Sangat has been established on the rationale of countering brutalities of RSS and RAW in India. Khalistan movement not only represents resistance of Sikhs but it also condemns the repression against minorities and Kashmiris in India.

Dr. Huma Baqai (IR Expert): The massacre of minorities is deep-rooted in the history of India. The most important instance of brutality against Sikh community of India is the 1984's Golden Temple operation. Religious freedom is the fundamental right of people in any democracy and the genocide of minorities in India implies that it is a totalitarian state. The religious fault lines were fixed to an extent by Manmohan Singh but the Modi government has added fuel to the fire. The irredentist claims of Sikh community are being materialized by virtue of a recent referendum being held in the United Kingdom. Soon, the BJP will get to know about impending catastrophe in Indian social fabric.

Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Ejaz Awan (Defense Analyst): Pakistan has once again clearly communicated to the international community that we are a peace loving nation. The PTI-led government should be lauded for this impeccable step of rejuvenation of trade with Afghanistan. The implications of reopening of the Chaman border will be of economic and strategic in nature. In the domain of economics, Pakistan and Afghanistan can collectively curb the challenges of economic dependence on western institutions because of regional trade. Moreover, in the terms of security and stability, revival of Chaman border under surveillance will eliminate the threats of terrorism and cross-border infiltration. Pakistan has always promoted peace in the region and the reopening of Chaman border will help Afghanistan averting the imminent humanitarian crisis.
