Analysts urge Afghan govt to ensure its soil is not used for cross border terrorism
December 28, 2024

Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas (Defense Analyst): Terrorism is one of the biggest challenges that Pakistan has been facing for several decades. These terrorist attacks in Pakistan are being carried out from Afghan soil. Unfortunately, the land of our neighboring Muslim country is being used for terrorist activities in Pakistan. When the interim government in Afghanistan was formed the stakeholders agreed that Afghan soil will not be used against any other country but the interim government in Afghanistan failed to fulfill its commitment. The fact is that Afghanistan is not fulfilling its responsibility in securing the border and stopping the cross border movement of the militants. Pakistan shares a long border with Afghanistan and border management is the responsibility of both the countries. Pakistan has taken multiple initiatives to improve border management with Afghanistan. The Afghan government is either turning a blind eye or providing them sanctuary. It is the responsibility of Afghanistan interim govt to ensure its land is not being used against Pakistan. As per norms of International law, it is the responsibility of the each country to ensure its land and nationals are not used to destabilize peace in other countries.

Brig (Rtd) Babar Alauddin (Defense Analyst):  Unfortunately the Afghan government is unable to control the terrorist activities of the militants using Afghan soil for nefarious designs against Pakistan. The recent wave of the terrorism in the country is really concerning. Everyday our security personnel are sacrificing their lives for the safety and security of the nation. Pakistan is the only country that has been affected badly by the menace of terrorism. The militants are using the modern technology weapons left there by the NATO forces after the withdrawal. The interim Afghan government must have to take strict actions against the militant organization as it is vital for regional peace and prosperity. Under the Doha agreement, Taliban are bound to ensure their land is not used by proxy forces to destabilize other countries of region.
