Kashmiris on both sides of line of control observed the martyrdom anniversaries of senior Hurriyat leaders Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and martyrs of Hawal today.

Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq was assassinated by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on this day in 1990, with 70 mourners losing their lives on the same day when Indian troops opened fire on his funeral procession in Hawal. Similarly, twelve years later, Khawaja Ghani Lone was assassinated by unknown attackers in 2002.

Seminars, rallies, and prayer sessions were held across the Line of Control in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Azad Kashmir to pay tribute to the prominent Hurriyat leaders.

APHC leaders and organizations, including Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Bilal Siddiqi, Fayaz Hussain Jafri, Zamrooda Habib, Abdul Samad Inqilabi and Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, in their statements in Srinagar paid rich tributes to the martyred leaders and the Hawal martyrs.

A seminar jointly organized by APHC-AJK chapter and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell in Islamabad in memory of the martyred leaders emphasized that India cannot suppress the freedom struggle through mass killings and arrests in the occupied territory.
